I'm taking Music 148, a class in African Dance-Drumming with CK Ladzekpo. I've designed a notation called "tick notation" to be easier for drummers to read and to try to show the relationships between rhythms more clearly than traditional music notation. I've described the notation in posts on my journal here and here.
These are some of the rhythms and songs we're learning, written in tick notation.
- Rhythmic Framework (the 12-beat bell pattern with 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 subdivisions, 2006-11-01)
- Sovu (support instruments, introduction, and episodes 1 and 2, 2006-11-10)
- Kpanlogo (support instruments, 2006-11-10)
- Takada (support instruments and Woa Dze, 2006-11-10)
I'll be updating these continually as i transcribe more material into tick notation.
